Mr. C. Edward Steele

Charles Edward Steele died unexpectedly on June 26, 2026, with his soulmate and wife of 40 years Lee (Cimini) Steele by his side. Ed was born on September 4, 1947, in Dalton Ma. to the late John and Marion Steele. He was predeceased by his parents and his half-brother Robert Olsted. He is survived by his wife Lee, his half-brother Richard Olsted as well as the affectionate and bountiful Cimini - Murray clan, who wholeheartedly embraced Ed as one of their own. Ed occupied many roles over the years. He served for four years in the United States Marines, one of those years in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge as Sergeant, Ed landed at Eastover Resort in Lenox where some of his most meaningful relationships took root. This is where he met Lee, whom he married on May 11, 1986. From Eastover Ed moved on to Lane Construction where he worked as an Operating Engineer for 30 years and was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He retired in 2011. Ed had an inherent and contagious appreciation for life. He worked hard and enjoyed the fruits of that work which included numerous adventures with Lee. The two might be found in Key West, Florida, Nashville, Tennessee or Kennibunkport, Maine depending on the season and the company. Ed could also be found at antique car shows where he took great pleasure in sharing his 1934 Ford truck and 1936 Ford coupe complete with flathead engines. Sharing and generosity were a part of Ed’s fabric. Ed shared many things; from his vast set of skills to a wry comment made with impeccable timing. He also shared his home, a haven in Cheshire that he and Lee cultivated and nurtured creating a property that is undeniably enchanted, especially under the glow of a full moon. Ed’s dedication to his wife and family cannot be overstated, nor the absence they feel so profoundly right now. Ed held no pretenses. He was genuine, honest and steadfast. A reassuring presence in his quiet composure. Not known for his verbosity, Ed expressed his sentiments through his deeds. That might’ve been building a five-person toboggan, serving Christmas dinner to an intimate gathering of thirty in his garage, or driving his great nieces and nephews on a Halloween Hayride. If Ed was your friend, you had a friend for life.
