Mrs. Alice J. Halpin

Alice J. Halpin, 87, of Lenox, passed away peacefully at her home in Lee on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Born on December 9, 1938, in New London, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Lieutenant Colonel Frederick and Alice (Ferry) Wood. Alice attended Lenox High School and graduated with the Class of 1956. Alice married her high school sweetheart, Ronald “Ronnie” J. Halpin, at St. Ann’s Church on October 4, 1958. Together they shared many wonderful years of marriage, family, and memories before Ronnie’s passing on May 15, 2003. Alice worked at several local businesses throughout the Berkshires, including Berkshire Nautilus, The Heritage House, The Sullivan Station, and Talbot’s in downtown Lenox, where she later retired. Alice especially loved spending time with her family and shared a special closeness with her cousins, sharing countless memories and laughs around the round table. Alice also loved clothes — particularly shoes — and always enjoyed looking her best. She loved to travel and took great pride in tracing her Irish & Scottish roots. She was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan and loved rooting for her team. She was blessed with many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. Whether it was lunch dates, bridge games, or long talks on the phone, the friendships she shared were ones she truly held close to her heart. She treasured family gatherings, the many friendships she made throughout her life, and simple moments at home with a cocktail because, after all, it always “five o’clock somewhere,”. She was especially known for the immense joy she found in her granddaughter, Lyndsay, and her great-granddaughter, Lakelyn, who brought a light to her life like nothing else. She also shared an unbreakable bond with her daughter, Susan; their closeness was so evident that they were often mistaken for sisters, always seen out and about enjoying life together. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her warm and contagious laugh and smile, and the deep pride she carried for the Berkshires and her Country, often seen proudly wearing her red, white, and blue. Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan Halpin of Lee; her son, Mark Halpin of Valatie, New York; her grandchildren, Lyndsay Patenaude and her husband Billy of Pittsfield, Caroline Colwell and her husband Matt of Hudson, New York, Bryant Halpin of Rensselaer, New York, and Quinn Halpin of Valatie, New York; her beloved great-granddaughter, Lakelyn; as well as many cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery with Monsignor John Bonzagni officiating.
