Virginia Daisy Rhodes Wehner: 3/6/1929-12/30/2105 Virginia Daisy Rhodes Wehner went home to heaven on December 30, 2015. She was born in North Adams on March 6, 1929 to Robert Samuel and Lillian Almira Robinson Rhodes, who owned the largest dairy farm in South Williamstown. She graduated from Williamstown High School in 1947 and married Elmer William Wehner in 1949. They resided at Kalorama Orchards, in Williamstown, until 1952, when William was called back into service as a Navy Pilot and flight instructor. Over the next five years, they resided in a number of coastal locations ranging from Pensacola, Florida to Wickford, Rhode Island. They settled in Lenox in 1957, where Virginia lived until her death; she also spent a year and a half in Plymouth, MA. Virginia loved the ocean and took up painting during these years. Ginny worked at the Lenox School for Boys and received two Masters Degrees from North Adams State College, in Environmental Science and Education. She was also the Director of the Early Childhood Development Center, in Pittsfield, and worked at other educational institutions over her 40 year career. She is survived by her children, Susan Wehner Mead, of Williamstown, Thomas Wehner, of Peru, and Rusty Wehner, of Lenox, with whom she made her home, and her daughter-in-law, Phebe Wehner, of Peru. She was predeceased by her oldest son, William Wehner, in 1972. She has three granddaughters, Brooke Wehner Mead, and Faith and Olivia Wehner; one great granddaughter, Eve Marion Judge and a step-great grandson, Alex Axt. She has two brothers, Linwood and Lee Rhodes, of Williamstown, and was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews. Virginia loved quilting, collecting antiques and reading. She was active in local politics, a volunteer to many organizations, and attended the Lenox Church on the Hill for many years. She was adored by many friends and a champion for those in need of assistance. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 8, at 11 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church, in South Williamstown. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lenox Volunteer Ambulance Service.
