Phillip G. Mathis, 56, of Lenox died on Friday, March 4th at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Charleston, SC., on November 16, 1965 to the late Paul and Carnice Sims Mathis, he attended Stall High School, in N. Charleston, SC., in school he was known for his fast ball and hitting abilities on the field. Phillip was a cross country truck driver by trade and glass installer. Many times, he was called to install windshields in cars that others couldn’t. His passion was motorcycles, classic cars, camping, grilling, and the Pittsburg Steelers. Phillip was proud of his Southern Heritage and loved to enlighten people about it as needed. Mr. Mathis married Sheila A. McIntyre on October 14, 2000 in N. Charleston. Besides his wife of Lenox, Massachusetts Phillip is survived by his siblings: Richard Mathis (Mary), Melvin Mathis (Nancy), Nancy Crain (Paul), Dale Mathis (Sandra), Sheila Caldwell, and Paul Mathis known as Stevie. He was pre-deceased by his brother Craig Mathis, leaves a sister-in-law, Agatha Mathis and many nieces and nephews. His dogs, Tyler and Heidi will keep the vigil going waiting for dad to come home. Phillip’s life long friends whom he considered brothers: Allen King, Jimmy Allen, and Robert Burn will carry on his memory with stories and laughter, as he was the king of the one liners. Family and friends were of the utmost importance to Phillip and he’d always call them to see “what’s up” to keep the connection alive. A celebration of life for Mr. Phillip G.
