Mr Paul Joseph Glavin

Paul Joseph Glavin, 79, of Lenox, died Sunday evening at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Syracuse, NY April 9, 1936, the son of Joseph G. and Jane Delaport Glavin, he was a 1954 graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Lemoyne College, both in Syracuse. He later attended the Pratt Institute in New York City where he received his Master’s in Library Science. Mr. Glavin was a Librarian for the Queens (NY) Public Library System for over 40 years, retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Pittsfield and the Pittsfield Sangha. Paul had a lifelong interest in the arts, particularly at Jacob's Pillow, Tanglewood, the Clark Art Institute, among others, He was fond of painting and had several exhibitions of his work in Lenox. Mr. Glavin and his spouse, A. Richard DeAndrea, were married in North Adams on May 20, 2004. Mr. DeAndrea died February 7, 2011. They had visited the Berkshires for seventeen years prior to moving to Lenox and living here full time in 1994. He is survived by his brothers Richard M. Glavin of New York City, John B. Glavin, of San Francisco, and Dennis T. Glavin, of St. Augustine, Florida, sisters Jeanne Cimilluca and Mary Holtzman, of New York, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for later date.
