Jane Peters Layton, 87, of Yokun Avenue, died Tuesday evening at her home. Born in Ardmore, Pa., on Sept. 9, 1925, the daughter of Frederick Charles and Mary Yarnal Peters, she was a 1943 graduate of the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and was a member of the Class of 1945 at Colby-Sawyer College in Sunapee, N.H. She worked for several years at a child care center in Cape May Court House, N.J., and, in later years, volunteered at the Senior Lunch Program at the Lenox Community Center. Her husband John Elisha Layton, Jr. died in 1970. Mrs. Layton is survived by two daughters, Robin Capoor of West Patterson, N.J., and Margaret Layton of Lenox; one son, Thomas Layton of Deep River, Conn.; one brother, Frederick Yarnell Peters of Gladwyne, Pa.; Dr. Maya Capoor Evans and her children Ella and Jake; Reykha Capoor Bonilla, and her daughter, Ingrid and son, Nikhil; Jonathan Layton, and Sarah Layton and her daughter, Cassidy. She was predeceased by her son, John E. Layton III, and by her sister, Martha Skillings. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service celebrating the life of Jane Peters Layton of Lenox will be Saturday, May 11, at 3 p.m. at St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox. A burial service at the convenience of the family will take place in the Peter's family lot in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane's memory may be made to the Lenox Community Center Jane P. Layton Scholarship Fund in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. Jane will long be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and her unmistakable laugh and sense of humor. Her family would like to give special thanks for the loving care shown to her by her caregivers, Patricia Verdi, Sharon Gordon, Patricia Pixley and to Hospice Care of the Berkshires.
