March 14, 1938 - January 6, 2018
James Lee Wallin, 79, of Pittsfield, died Saturday evening at his home. He was an incredible father, husband, and friend. He never met a stranger and his outgoing personality made him liked by everyone who knew him. We all benefitted from his expertise in fixing anything, his ability to navigate anywhere and his talent in preparing the best meals in the world. His breakfasts were unparalleled on the planet. Whether you called him "Tex", "Sonny", Jim, Papa or Dad, he showed us all how to be kind, compassionate and live with integrity. He loved all our family gatherings, Texas, Disney and trivia of all kinds. Born in Brazos County, Texas on March 14, 1938, the son of Elmer Lee Wallin and Lila May Burt Wallin, he graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1956 and left for active duty in the US Navy the day after graduation. Several years later he attended Berkshire Community College. Jim was an Instrumentation Technician at Mead Corp. in Lee for many years, retiring in 1999. His wife, Marian Larsen Wallin, whom he married September 3, 1960, died September 7, 2004. Survivors include his two daughters; Xena Lee Kammers and husband Joseph of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, and Beth Bradley Parsons and husband Carl of Falls Village, CT; three sisters, Hazel Holland and husband B.B., Joyce Marchisio and husband John, and Doris Newton and husband Mason, all of College Station, Texas; brother and sister in law Earl and Lesley Albert of West Stockbridge; grandchildren Sarah Virginia and Rebecca Elisabeth Kammers; friend Charlene Brunelle of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Jim.
