Mr. James O'Brien Herrick

June 16, 1941 - March 29, 2022

James O’Brien Herrick, 80, formerly of Lenox, died Tuesday March 29th at the Bailley Center at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, FL. Born in Great Barrington, MA June 16, 1941, the son of David and Josephine O’Brien Herrick, he attended Lenox schools and was a 1959 graduate of Lenox High School. Following graduation, he attended St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Herrick worked along with his father for many years at the family business, Herrick Furniture on Church Street in Lenox. He worked as a Wholesale Oil & Diesel Salesman for Axel Johnson at Sprague Energy in New Hampshire and retired in the year 2018. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church and for many years was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Alford Brook Club, Lenox Housing Authority Board, and served as a coach and mentor to many Lenox Basketball athletes. Mr. Herrick and his wife, Valerie Maillow Herrick, were married in St. Ann’s Church on October 12, 1964. Besides his wife, of St. Augustine, he is survived by one daughter, Elaine H. Luers and her husband, Gregory of St. Augustine; daughter in law, Lisa Fraser Herrick of Richmond, one son, Timothy J Herrick and partner, Kim Wheeler of Lee, two brothers, David E. Herrick of Mill River and Richard Herrick and his wife Betsy of Lenox; sister, Mary Jo Piretti Miller and her husband Len of Lenox; grandchildren including Benjamin Herrick, Mollie Herrick, Ashley Harris, Emilee Foley, Maxwell Herrick, Colton Herrick, Peter Luers, Adeline Luers, Jackson Luers; four great-grandchildren, Tiana and Warren Vallone, Rebel Harris and Matilda Foley, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, James O. Herrick, Jr., and brother- in- law Peter J. Piretti. A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. James O. Herrick will be celebrated Friday, April 8th, at 11 am at St. Ann’s Church by the Rev. Monsignor John J. Bonzagni, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be at St. Ann’s Church on Thursday, April, 7th from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Lenox Youth Basketball Association and the Lenox Fire Department in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240
