Charles V. McGee, Jr., 60, lifelong resident of Lenox, died Thursday morning after a courageous battle with cancer at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born in Pittsfield May 17, 1952, the son of the late Charles V. and Dorothy Sternberg McGee, he was a 1970 graduate of Lenox Memorial High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Following high school, Charlie spent an impressionable year at The Lenox School continuing to excel in sports, but most notably came to embrace the school motto "Not To Be Served, But To Serve." Over the years, he remained an active alumnus and was inducted into The Lenox School Hall of Fame at the 2009 annual reunion. His broad college experience included Siena and Williams Colleges, the University of Mexico, and Helsinki University, earning his BA in English Literature from North Adams State College, now MCLA. Mr. McGee was a career salesman in Marketing and Advertising. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Lenox. The "Big C" enjoyed playing softball and basketball for many years, and was an avid golfer and Yankee fan. Mr. McGee and the love of his life, Wendy Bartsch McGee, were married in St. Ann's Church April 12, 2009, and the following 4th of July renewed their vows with family and friends at St. Ann's. He cherished his special moments with Wendy, a joy "meant to be." Besides his wife, he is also survived by Mom & Dad Bartsch, his two sisters; Dorothy Taglieri of Clearwater, Fla., Patricia Mantegari and husband Rudy of Pittsfield; nephews, nieces and their spouses Lynne & Brian, Richard, Mark & Robin, Laurie & Mitchell, Robert & Sarah, Michael & Kirsten; his great nieces and nephews ("little people") Quinn, Brooke, Tess, Zachary, Abigail, Amelia, Alana, Vincent, Alexis, Amanda and Hunter; and his beloved dogs Meggie May and Liam Gordon. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Charles V. McGee, Jr. of Lenox will be celebrated Monday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, Pastor. The celebration of Charles' life will continue following the funeral mass at St. Ann's Parish Family Center. There are no calling hours and private burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery. Those who wish to, may make donations in Charles' memory to the American Cancer Society in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. Charlie enjoyed nature's beauty, and was always romantically showering his wife with fresh flowers.
